Transport
Last update: 07-31-2007

There is an extremely good public transport network in Montpellier, which means that students have great freedom of movement. Amongst which:
Bus network
connects all the towns in the Montpellier area and covers Montpellier itself. Services start at around 06.00 in the morning and stop at 21.00. A service in between these times is provided by night buses like the Rabelais and the Amigo as well as trams until 01.00 in the morning.
To reach Groupe Sup De Co Montpellier from the city centre, you take line 6 towards Professeur Blayac or line 7 towards Celleneuve. The stop is Ecole de Commerce
The Tram system
a first line has been built and crosses the city west to east, connecting the Mosson stadium with the Odysseum leisure complex. There is a tram every 5 minutes between 07.00 and 21.00. This is an ideal mode of transport for students because it is fast, pleasant and serves places that are strategic for students: among others, GSCM, the universities, cinemas, public areas and the shops. The first tram leaves at 05.00 in the morning and the last at about 01.00 in the morning

Taxis
Taxis are fairly expensive for one person but if there are several of you sharing the cost of the journey, they are no more expensive than public transport. You will find taxis outside the SNCF train station.
Taxi Bleu de Montpellier (24h/24): 04 67 03 20 00.
Taxi Tram (24h/24): 04 67 58 10 10 / 04 67 92 04 55
Travelling outside Montpellier :
By Train
Trains allow you to travel in the region as well as in the whole of France at reasonable cost and quickly.
With SNCF’s 12-25 card, you are entitled to a reduction of 50% on all your journeys in France. It costs about 50 euros. To take advantage of this offer, you will need to buy this card which is available from all SNCF ticket offices; you will need a photo and proof of identity showing your age.
The 12-25 card also opens the door to other reductions with SNCF’s partners, including discounts on plane tickets, car hire, etc.
PREMS or IDTGV tickets are also available on some lines where you get preferential tariffs without the need to have a discount card. However, you need to know that once bought, these tickets are neither exchangeable nor refundable.
You can order your tickets online and have them delivered to your country of origin from the SNCF site.
To access the site, click on SNCF or telephone +33 (0)4 99 74 15 10 or for traffic information, Traffic 36 35.
By plane
As far as travel by plane is concerned, the airport is easily accessible and the major French airlines fly to Montpellier. Flying to Paris costs between 50 and 60 euros for the 1 hour flight. There are about 12 flights to Paris daily.

By coach
Coaches are certainly the least expensive means of transport but they also take the longest time. The bus station, the central station for buses, is situated close to the railway station. There is no bus to Paris. If you wish to travel in other countries for a reasonable price however you can approach the EUROLINES company.
