Constant innovation
What better place than this, our first newsletter, to speak of innovation? This publication, which will keep you regularly informed of what's happening at our school, illustrates our intent to innovate wherever possible, even in our communications.
As we approach the end of the school year and students are gearing up to take their oral exams between May 30 and July 8, we are decisively shifting Sup de Co Montpellier toward managerial innovation.
In one sense, we are not inventing anything new, as innovation in the management of corporations has always been the primary force that has driven their progress. Of course, technical innovations or the discovery of new products are milestones that highlight the ascension of a successful company, but no innovation can have as much impact as those that take place at the operational level of a company. Take, for example, modern R&D laboratories, though ubiquitous today, they were invented by General Electric in 1900. Or consider project management, wall-less laboratories, etc. But we innovate by being the first school to recognize the importance of the concept of managerial innovation, which will form the backbone of our research and our instruction.
Not everyone is in a situation to invent R&D laboratories, but economic progress is made by the accumulation of less visible managerial innovations, which, at various levels, provide companies with distinct advantages over their competitors. Our aim is to train managers who will not only put their knowledge to use, but who will use that knowledge as a basis to contribute new perspective, and bring about managerial innovation.
In this newsletter, Marie-Christine Caubet, CEO of Group Volkswagen France S.A., shares with us her point of view on managerial innovation. Large corporate groups will appreciate the potential that our school will provide them by making managerial innovation a central feature of its training.
Managerial innovation in the management of a large business school also implies the ability to adapt to new trends, which we have done by embracing diversity.
2011 got off to a good start with the accreditation of AACSB, the culmination of almost ten years of transformations at the school. This trend continues with the reorientation toward managerial innovation. Sup de Co Montpellier is, decidedly, a school of constant innovation!

The Groupe Sup de Co Montpellier becomes the Groupe Sup de Co Montpellier Business School!
Among the 14 Grandes Ecoles accredited AACSB, we were the only one to keep the name Sup de Co. All chose the designation "Business School" or "School of Management". While waiting for the major changes to come in 2012, the Groupe Sup de Co Montpellier becomes the Groupe Sup de Co Montpellier Business School. In order to facilitate our international development, recruit foreign students, it was necessary to identify ourselves as a higher education institution, as a Grande Ecole Management Group with the addition of "Business School".
We have taken the opportunity of this change to modernise our logo.

The research-professors publish the "practico-practical" of all VSB directors
Katherine Gundolf and Annabelle Jaouen, research-professors of the Groupe Sup de Co Montpellier Business School, publish Manage a small company - Manage, communicate, develop the company(*) A particularly practical tool for all the creators of small companies and one which was cruelly missing in the mass of literature on entrepreneurship. "There is a plethora of books and research publications on the subject, but what was missing was a publication aimed at entrepreneurs", explains Katherine Gundolf.
The directors of small companies are very often isolated and need concrete information on the creation of a VSB. "We make people believe that creating a company is easy. This just isn't true. You have to know how to surround yourself with competent people and above all not under-estimate the need for capital", insists Annabelle Jaouen.

Entrepreneurship is a frame of mind that is also applicable to the humanitarian sector.
Ibrahim Rouissi, William Saulnier and Edouard Elias start in this way the first stage of their project which consists in constructing a computer room for the the school of the nomad camp of Oulad Taleb, a village 30 kms south-east of Casablanca. "We hope that eventually the inhabitants of Oulab Taleb will realise the necessity for these infrastructures and the access to the world that the knowledge of new technologies provides", states Ibrahim Rouissi, student in the Montpellier Business School Grande Ecole Master Programme. Over five years, the students of the School will relay each other to complete the full programme of their actions to renovate the school and teach literacy to women thanks to computer support. The Groupe Sup de Co Montpellier Business School rugby team: on top form!
It's a year rich in sporting achievements for the Montpellier Business School. After the victory in the Grandes Ecoles Yacht Race, the students succeed this time in rugby. They finish second out of eleven teams in the academic rugby union championship and first in the sevens promotional tournament organised by the Law Faculty of Narbonne.
A genuine success for all the team which has to juggle with renewing its line-up each year as a consequence of the organisation of the courses. "We cannot make up the team before the month of October, outlines Mathis Roudil, student in the Bachelor Programme, and it is very difficult to find time for the training sessions." All the same, they have managed to create a cohesion and a team organisation sufficient to be "way above the other teams at the end of the year", as the young man is delighted to point out.
